The submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the Congress Scientific Committee, according to the adequacy of the contents of the Congress topics. Please submit an abstract of no more than 200 words, before the 17thof February, for prior evaluation. Posters may also be submitted – the authors should use the specific format available on the congress website. The submission process will take place between November 1, 2018, and April 30, 2019. Successful applicants will be informed on a regular basis, no later than May 5, 2019. The deadline for full papers is May 24,2019.
Congress languages: preferably English, however Polish, Portuguese and Spanish can also be used (especially during parallel sessions).
The publication of the works in a Book of Abstracts (with ISBN) is foreseen as the Congress outcome.

a Professor of Human Geography (Regional Studies) position, Department of Geographical and Historical Studies, Joensuu Campus
The focus of the professorship is regional studies in the context of human geography. A re-gion is defined as a broad concept that offers perspectives on, e.g., scales, territorialism, re-gional development and regional policy, as well as on border studies and health geography. In the framework of human geography, research should be based on strong social theoretical and spatial approaches; the application and development of various qualitative and quantitative methods, including geoinformatics, are central to this framework.

This workshop is part of the Nurturing Talent programme of the Regional Science Association International. The aim is to stimulate young researchers to present and discuss their work and to be connected with other promising and talented researchers in a dedicated field of regional science. We expect some 5 senior scholars from outside Morocco (Peter Nijkamp, Mark Partridge, Tomaz Dentinho, Karima Kourtit and Andrea Caragliu) and other scholars from the country to guide the two-day workshop, to act as a sounding board for your research, and to introduce you to international research networks or publication outlets.
Essaouira is one of the most beautiful coastal cities in Morocco and can easily be reached easily by ground transportation in less than two hours from the city of Marrakech (which has many international connections). We will be able to cover the local costs (accommodation, food and local transportation costs) during your stay at the workshop. So, only your international travel costs have to be covered by your home institution.
I would like to add that the workshop is organized back-to-back with an international conference on “From Creativity in the City to the Creative City” which will be held from February 26 to March 1, 2019 in the same place. You are of course also cordially invited to participate (optionally) in this international conference.

Moreover, I would like to let you know that 13th Aalto University Summer School on Transportation – Mobility Systems for Open and Happy Cities is open for submissions. The Summer School is organised before the conference (May 29 – June 4, 2019) at Otaniemi campus of Aalto University, Helsinki. The theme of the Summer School is Mobility Systems for Open and Happy Cities, in synergy with the 15th NECTAR conference theme, and underlying Nordic values of transparency and citizen well-being. The activities will include lectures, site visit and envisioning workshops, all focused on various aspects of planning and policy, including technological trends and variety of quantitative and qualitative methods. The lecturers will include NECTAR cluster chairs and other renowned experts. The summer school will involve a close collaboration with planners from the City of Helsinki. Graduate students (MSc and PhD) are eligible for 3 ECTS from the Summer School.
Registration is due May 15. Spaces are limited and assigned in order of application. Graduate students and post-docs who are NECTAR members can get a scholarship covering their fee. Under the project “Gestion patrimoniale des réseaux d’eau potable pour préserver la qualité de l’eau et réduire les pertes – Renouvellement Orienté des Canalisations (ROC)” funded by the Région Nouvelle Aquitaine, the Agence de l’eau Loire-Bretagne and the Agence de l’eau Adour- Garonne, Irstea offers a renewable 12-month postdoctoral position in economics from April 1, 2019.
Drinking water networks are a high value asset with a long service life; their management must hus adopt a long-term approach and adapting to changes in their environment, mainly connected to global change and new technologies. The key challenge of this “asset management” is the annual renewal of a small portion of pipelines, in order to mitigate the effects of ageing on their performances, and to prevent the deterioration of the quality of service. It thus concerns technical, organisational (service), economic and financial (costs and benefits), environmental (resources) and societal (territorial governance, users) issues, which call for interdisciplinary answers enlisting engineering, mathematics and social sciences.
In this context, the ROC project aims to develop tools and methods allowing potable water distribution system authorities to build asset management strategies oriented towards limiting water loss and safeguarding water quality. The study sites are located in the Région Nouvelle- Aquitaine.
Today, health risks (in particular linked to the presence of Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM) in PVC pipes) and the limitation of water loss are usually driving the decision regarding water pipes renewal. However, the methodological reflection remains focused on risks of service interruptions and impacts of malfunctions on the urban environment. And it is mainly based on multi-criteria decision-making. A major challenge for research thus lies in taking into account the other dimensions of the performance of water supply service, namely integrity of the network (resource protection) and water quality (among which the issue of CVM). This is especially true since, in most cases, actions undertaken to satisfy one axis of performance are sub-optimal for the others. It appears that technical sciences are able to generate new knowledge on each axis taken separately. However, their integration, which is an operational necessity, requires a more complete picture on the issue and the resort of economics. To achieve this goal, we propose to use a Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA), which seems to allow taking into account the multi-objectives character of asset management.
The postdoctoral student will lead the CBA in order to compare three asset management strategies leading to the same amount of work but each focussing on one specific dimension of service performance (water quality; service continuity and protection of the urban environment, that is to say prevention against breakages; limitation of water loss), while considering the water price. More precisely, the postdoctoral student will have to:
