Applications and nominations are invited for outstanding candidates for the position of Chair of the Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics at The Ohio State University. The new Chair will be uniquely positioned to build on the strengths of the department and will drive the department forward towards its mission of scholarship, education and dissemination of knowledge through application of economic principles to society’s challenges in agriculture, the food system, the environment, and economic development.
The Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics at The Ohio State University provides world-class teaching, research and outreach in applied economics, with concentrations in the areas of agricultural economics and agribusiness, environmental and resource economics, international and development economics, and regional and urban economics. The department has 19 tenured and tenure-track faculty and a dedicated group of 9 program staff personnel. The department offers academic programs leading to a B.S. degree in Agribusiness and Applied Economics, a B.S. degree in Environment, Economy, Development and Sustainability, a Masters of Applied Economics (MAE), and a Ph.D. in Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics. The Faculty produce nationally and internationally renowned programs to fulfill its land grant university missions in teaching, research, and extension education.
Responsibilities: The Department Chair is responsible for leadership, strategic planning, finances, administration, academic affairs and external relations of the department. The Chair will be committed to enhancing the education, research, and service missions and will possess an exceptional scholarly record, leadership skills, and strategic capacity to advance the department.
Responsibilities include oversight of personnel including performance reviews, administration of merit pay increases, development of workload assignments, and management of budgets and facilities. The Chair may also carry on instructional, research, and outreach activities commensurate with his/her administrative responsibilities. The Chair is responsible for establishment and maintenance of a financial and operational environment that is focused on appropriate internal controls. This should include, but not be limited to, appropriate segregation of duties in the processing of financial transactions, appropriate mandatory approvals, appropriate procedures to maintain effective custody over university resources, appropriate monitoring and oversight and appropriate mandatory reconciliations. The Chair reports to the Vice President and Executive Dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, economics, or a related area, and must have distinguished academic credentials and eligibility for appointment to the rank of professor with tenure in the Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics at The Ohio State University. The applicant must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and should have a proven record of using sound judgment in identifying, prioritizing and solving organizational problems in an academic or related setting; as well as experience working with industry to drive ongoing communication and partnerships. Additional essential qualifications include successful administrative experience, the ability to effectively engage a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The University of California, Santa Barbara Department of Geography invites applications for a tenure-track position in spatial data science and geographic information science at the rank of Assistant Professor. The department seeks applicants with core research interests in, but not limited to, inferential and computational analysis of spatial data, data mining, spatial analytics, machine learning, geographic information retrieval, and geovisualization in support of any substantive domain in Geography or allied disciplines that rely on spatiotemporal data. The Department of Geography has strengths in three broadly defined areas: human geography; earth system science; and modeling, measurement and computation. This position is most strongly associated with the third of these areas, but interest in one or both of the other systematic areas is also desirable. We provide opportunities for interactions with many other departments and research units on campus, including the Center for Spatial Studies, various labs (Space and Time for Knowledge Organization, GeoTrans, Spatial Optimization, VIPER), the Broom Demography Center, and the Center for Information Technology & Society. Preference will be given to candidates demonstrating potential for significant and sustained research and teaching contributions in geographical data analysis, spatial statistics and geographic information science.

This year's CARMA features
The poster sessions of CARMA 2018 will provide an opportunity for presenting late-breaking results, on-going research projects, and speculative or innovative work in progress. These sessions are informal and highly interactive, and allow authors and participants to engage in in-depth discussions about the presented work from which new collaborations, ideas, and solutions can emerge.
Posters should cover the same key areas as the main research tracks and should contain original cutting-edge ideas, as well as speculative/provocative ones. Proposals of new research directions and innovative interdisciplinary approaches are also welcome.
Authors should submit a two-page extended abstract of their poster. Submissions must be in PDF, and must be done by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Posters will be reviewed by members of the Scientific Committee based on originality, significance, quality, and clarity.

One of the stated aims of the European Association for South Asian Studies is to encourage and support young scholars working in the field of South Asian Studies. In pursuit of this aim, the Association is offering awards linked to its biennial conference. Awards are to be made for the most outstanding papers by currently registered research students presenting at the conference. At the 25th EASAS conference in Paris, up to three awards of €300 each will be made. All current PhD students fully registered and presenting at the conference may submit their paper for consideration. The submitted papers will be considered by a panel of judges selected by the EASAS Council. It is hoped that by offering three Awards, the competition will reflect the full range of disciplines represented at the conference.

GRAN SASSO SCIENCE INSTITUTE: DEADLINE JUNE 20TH
PhD in Urban Studies and Regional Science: 7 scholarships;
plus: PhD in Urban Studies and Regional Science – Center for Urban Informatics and Modeling (CUIM) project “Spatial, social and economic issues in post-disaster cities and regions”: 1 scholarship;
The aim of the PhD in Urban Studies and Regional Science is to address issues related to local and regional development. The methodological perspective of research and teaching is multidisciplinary, combining regional and urban economics, economic and human geography, spatial planning and sociology.
The PhD program lasts four years.
The Academic Year will start on November 1st 2018.
Scholarships
The GSSI provides all students with free accommodation and meals, plus a yearly scholarship of € 16.159,91 gross. An additional 50% on a monthly basis may be awarded for research period aboard if approved by the GSSI.
