This fall, the University at Buffalo, SUNY introduced a new initiative called the PhD Excellence Initiative to strengthen the quality of students in our PhD programs and to increase their success rates. The new scheme includes the following components:
- Five year funding packages;
- Minimum salaries starting at $20,800;
- Full tuition and fee waivers;
- Minimum teaching obligations with teaching relief for two of the five years.
Top students will be nominated for a Presidential fellowship, which increases the stipend by an additional $7,500 if awarded. Domestic students who meet diversity criteria can also be recruited via the Schomburg program. More information can be found on our website: http://www.buffalo.edu/cas/geography/about-us/admissions.html
Review of applications will begin on December 1st. We are seeking applicants in all of our research clusters: GIS, Urban and Regional Analysis, Earth Systems Science, Economic Geography and Development, and Health Geography.
