Please consider these announcements and share them with others. The deadline for our call for papers has been extended to November 28th. Leadership Training Seminar at the Annual Conference of the Eastern Economic Association On February 25th there will be a special one-day training seminar that is being offered by the Eastern Economic Association during its annual conference in Washington, DC. It takes place the day before the conference sessions begin. People may attend the seminar as a separate event, or may attend it as part of the conference. The cost (which includes lunch) is $230. The seminar is entitled, "Principles of Ethics, Scientific Integrity, and Responsible Leadership: A One-Day Training Seminar for Economists." It is being taught by Distinguished Professors George DeMartino and Deirdre McCloskey, authors of the Oxford Handbook of Professional Economic Ethics, with presentations by Erica Groshen, Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics; Keith Hall, Director of the Congressional Budget Office; and Brian Moyer, Director of Bureau of Economic Analysis. The keynote luncheon speaker will be Professor William Easterly who will discuss his new book, The Tyranny of Experts. Also speaking will be Amelie Constant (IZA), Samuel Otoo (World Bank), W. Charles Sawyer (Texas Christian University), and Benjamin Simon (Dept. of the Interior). Call for Papers The Association for Integrity and Responsible Leadership in Economics and Associated Professions (airleap.org) will be holding sponsored sessions at the above-mentioned, annual meetings of the Eastern Economic Association. We are now accepting applications to present individual papers (which we will group into sessions), applications for proposed sessions, and applications for panel discussions. Students are welcome to apply. Papers and sessions may examine any of the following topics as they relate to ethics, integrity, and responsible leadership in economics: I. How Economics Classes Are Taught
II. Economics as an Objective Science III. Breadth of Economists' Perspectives IV. Usefulness of Economic Discourse V. How Ideas are Recognized and Rewarded VI. The Funding of Economic Research VII. Contracted Economic Studies VIII. Proper Use and Interpretation of Economic Statistics IX. The Job Market for Economists X. Economics and International Relations There is no application fee, and applications for papers require only an abstract (of no more than 500 words)—not a draft of the paper. Applicants must be AIRLEAP members, and our membership is free. The deadline for applications has been extended to November 28, 2015.
