***16th Rural Entrepreneurship Conference-EXTENDED DEADLINE-12th March 2018***

The 16th Rural Entrepreneurship Conference takes place at the University of Plymouth in 2018 and the Plymouth Business School and Futures Entrepreneurship Centre are inviting contributions from practitioners and academics to any of the following themes:

  • Entrepreneurship, farming and the natural environment 
  • Digital rural entrepreneurship
  • International dimensions of rural entrepreneurship
  • New approaches in rural theory, method and measurement
  • Opportunities and challenges for rural development
  • Rural innovation, EU funding and the role of universities
  • Rural social entrepreneurship
  • Rural entrepreneurship and marketing
  • Rural tourism enterprises.

Abstract submissions

Extended deadline due to high demand

Abstracts are invited for papers from anyone with an interest in rural entrepreneurship; we encourage contributions from academics and practitioners alike. Please indicate which of the conference themes you think is/are most appropriate and limit your abstract to 400 words. 

Full paper submissions

Following the mandatory abstract submission by 12 March 2018, you can optionally submit full papers of between 3,000 and 4,000 words (excluding reference list) by 1 May 2018. Please use the template form so that we have standard margins, font Arial 11, 1.5 line spaced and including up to five keywords. Please also use Harvard referencing style.

Interested in an intensive immersion into the world of urban logistics? Interested to follow an introductory module covering all aspects of urban logistics (20-24 August) and an optional assignment elaboration week (27-31 August)? Interested to focus on innovation and sustainability in urban logistics in all its facets?

Then, you should join the first TransportNET Urban Logistics Summer School, from 20 to 24 August, in Antwerp. Presentations will be given by practitioners as well as academics, with ensuing discussions by all participants.

The summer school is instrumental to all those studying, planning and managing the logistics in urban areas, especially under the current dynamic context and with increasing attention for sustainable development. The course deals with economic, technological, planning, policy-making, environmental and IT/data issues. The course allows collecting 3 ECTS. Next to content exchange on the topic of urban logistics, the purpose is also to make participants from various international backgrounds exchange ideas and views.

Clark University, Worcester MA: Applicants are invited to apply for an academic year, non-tenure-track position in Economic Geography at the Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor level. The position starts in August, 2018, and is potentially renewable for an additional year.  Ph.D. in Geography or related field is preferred. The aim of the conference is to bring together policy makers and researchers to discuss developments in counterfactual methods and applications of impact evaluation. Submission guidelines

Authors from all over the world are invited to submit original and unpublished papers or extended abstracts, which are not under review in any other conference or journal. All submissions will be peer reviewed by the program committee based on their originality, significance, methodological soundness, and clarity of exposition.

Submissions (extended abstracts or full papers) must be written in English and should be in PDF format. They must follow the instructions in the template file, available in Microsoft Word format at:

Full-paper length must be between 4 and 8 pages (A4 size), incorporating all text, references, figures and tables. Extended abstracts (which will not receive a DOI) should not exceed 3 pages.

These guidelines are strict: papers failing to adhere to the guidelines (by being more than 8 pages, altering margins or not following the template) will be rejected without consideration of their merits. Submissions imply the willingness of at least one author to register, attend the conference, and present the paper.

CARMA 2018 is using the OCS platform of UPV Press to manage the submissions. In order to submit your paper, you must first create an OCS account. OCS will provide you with a submissions homepage where you can register your paper submission and make appropriate changes. The submission website is:

The workshop will take place at the Department of Economics and Management at the University of Florence on May 3rd-4th, 2018.
