Florida Atlantic University announces an international search to recruit a new Dean
for the College for Design and Social Inquiry

Florida Atlantic University, a major public research and doctoral-degree granting institution, seeks a visionary and dynamic leader with an established record of excellence in research, teaching, and administration for the College for Design and Social Inquiry (CDSI).  The Dean will provide strategic leadership, foster excellence in research and teaching, strengthen academic programs, promote global visibility, continue the advancement of innovation and fund-raising, and increase the College’s financial resources.  FAU’s new administration is set on leading the university to national prominence and RU/VH status.

CDSI is a constellation of professional programs unique in American academia. Comprising the Schools of Architecture, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Social Work, and Urban and Regional Planning, it educates the professions that work toward establishing and maintaining safe, healthy, and sustainable communities. The College has its facilities across the fast growing metropolitan area of South Florida, which is not only the region that it serves, but also its lab for scholarly research and inquiry. It currently employs 161 staff and faculty members and offers thirteen majors at all levels of study to over 3,600 undergraduate and graduate students.

Florida Atlantic University is a vigorous, young public institution that is serving the most diverse student body in Florida’s State University System on six modern campuses stretching along more than 100 miles of the beautiful Atlantic coastline. Founded in 1961 and fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, FAU has grown to include 10 colleges that offer its 30,000 students more than 170 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Reporting directly to the University Provost, the Dean provides academic, intellectual, and administrative leadership to the College.  Candidates for the Dean’s position must hold a terminal degree in one of the disciplines of the College, or a closely related field, and have academic qualifications appropriate to the rank of full professor with tenure in a School within the College.

Application Process

While nominations and applications will be accepted until a new Dean is selected, interested parties are encouraged to apply online no later than January 5, 2015 to assure optimal consideration. Prior to appointment, the candidate must submit official transcripts from their graduate institution directly to FAU. Degrees from outside the United States must be evaluated by an organization belonging to NACES. A background check will be required for the candidate selected for this position.

Degrees from outside the United States must be validated by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Service (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts).
