Requirements

The Assistant Professor of Urban Geography will conduct research and provide teaching that would enhance our offerings and should address one of the following areas:

•        Urban development

•        The complexity of human lives within cities

•        City economies, cultures, or politics

Substantively, research and teaching might focus on (but is not limited to):

•        Social justice as related to transportation, food, housing, or environmental change

•        Processes of racialization or ethnicization and their effects

•        The implications of financial markets on urban growth and change; migration and acceptance of refugees

•        The role of religion and faith in cities; contentious politics

We seek a scholar with a strong research record and a promising agenda for future work. A Ph.D. in Geography or a related field is required by the time of appointment. Applicants in related fields should demonstrate that their research is sufficiently geographical to fit within a multi-faceted Geography department.

Event Format
The seminar has a rather unique format: sessions are only held in the afternoons and evenings, meaning that there is ample spare time for networking, paper writing, the development of new research ideas, research collaborations, and last but not least for enjoying the beautiful Alpine nature and winter sports activities in the surroundings. Time slots of one hour are reserved for each presentation, providing plenty of room for in-depth discussion.

The seminar language will be English.

Call for Special Sessions          

The Local Organizing Committee of ERSA2017 invite you to propose a Special Session to be included in the programme of next year’s congress. Please, send in your proposal before December 2nd 2016.

As the process slightly differs from previous years, we ask you to take note of the procedure and guidelines regarding Special Sessions at ERSA2017.

What do we offer?

Special Sessions are a label of quality in the ERSA congresses and we accommodate for this in several ways:

•  We strive to allow 30 minutes for each presentation slot in a Special Session 

•  Each presentation in a Special Session will be assigned a discussant

What do we ask?

•  Each Special Session has a minimum of 6 registered presenters

•  Presenters apply for a special session on the basis of a draft paper or an extended abstract (deadline February 10th 2017)

•  Presentations are based on a (draft) paper that has been uploaded on the ERSA2017 submission website before June 9th 2017

If a Special Session does not meet these conditions, it will be included in the programme as an O-session.
