Jönköping International Business School is looking for at least six Doctoral Students in Business Administration and Economics with placement at one of the three research centers.

JIBS (Jönköping International Business School) is one of four schools within Jönköping University (JU). It is recognized as the most international business school in Sweden and one of the most international in the world. For more information please visit www.jibs.se.

JIBS mission is to advance the theory and practice of business, with specific focus on Entrepreneurship, Ownership, and Renewal. In line with this mission, we are looking for at least six doctoral students who are interested in pursuing their doctoral studies in one or more of these three areas. The doctoral students will be admitted to either the doctoral program in business administration (at least 4 positions) or the program in economics (at least 2 positions). The doctoral student will be affiliated to one of JIBS’ three centers; CeFEO (Centre for Family Enterprise and Ownership), CEnSE (Centre of Entrepreneurship and Spatial Economics) or MMTC (Media, Management and Transformation Centre) depending on her/his preliminary research interest.

CeFEO is the largest research center on family business and ownership in the world. Our research, education and outreach activities are oriented towards JIBS’ profile areas entrepreneurship, ownership and business renewal. CEnSE is a multi-disciplinary centre that performs applied research relating to issues of entrepreneurship and business renewal, regional development and growth and interrelation between urban and rural areas.

At MMTC we take interest in the business and industry implications triggered by the driving forces of digitalization, sustainability and globalization. This includes the study of digital entrepreneurship, issues related to social media, (sustainable) innovation as well as strategic responses to different challenges in the media and other industries. As a doctoral student we offer you full-time employment. Most of your time will be devoted to your doctoral studies (80%) which includes coursework and writing a doctoral thesis. The remaining time is allocated for teaching and administrative tasks. We seek candidates who have a strong wish to conduct high-quality academic scholarship on important topics within entrepreneurship, ownership and renewal.

The main language of research and teaching at JIBS is English. You must be fluent in both written and spoken English to be eligible for our doctoral program. Skills in other languages, including Swedish, are an advantage. An international outlook as well as prior research, teaching and/or professional experience are also advantageous, as is an ability to communicate effectively with different stakeholders in and around the university environment. Eligible applicants must have completed their MSc in a relevant discipline for the PhD program.

We seek candidates who have the ambition to pursue an international research career and wish to combine a high level of scholarship with policy-making and/or practical relevance.

The Scientific Programme Committee of the 2018 Conference, jointly organised by Statistics Poland (GUS), the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) Standing Committee of Regional and Urban Statistics (SCORUS) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), has selected the three themes below for the GUS – SCORUS Conference “NEW SCALE – NEW NEEDS – NEW STATISTICS”, to be hosted by GUS in Warsaw, Poland in June 6-8, 2018. Under each of these themes, sessions will be organised which can each accommodate several papers and presentations. You are invited to submit proposals for papers for these themes.

We live in era of dynamic changes occurring in various fields of social and economic activity. In these circumstances the role of statistics is to understand new phenomena, to identify information needs in dialogue with users, as well as to adapt statistical production process in order to provide most relevant, timely and geographically detailed statistics.

Statistics Poland celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2018. Our history makes us think about future vision of regional and urban statistics. We hope that SCORUS 2018 will be the platform for sharing knowledge and inspiring ideas.

2018 RSAI Best Dissertation in Regional Science

 

The Regional Science Association International (RSAI) invites submissions for the annual competition for the Best Doctoral Dissertation in Regional Science. Regional science is an interdisciplinary field concerned with theory, method, and application of regional, urban and rural, geographic and spatial investigations and analyses.

 

The winner will be decided by the Selection Committee and will receive a cash award of 750 Euros. Award announcements will be made at the North American Meetings of the RSAI, where participants in the competition are strongly encouraged to be present. The Selection Committee reserves the right to not make an award. Decisions made by the Selection Committee are final.

 

Eligibility:

  1. A dissertation completed in any Ph.D. program in any country is eligible,
  2. A dissertation written in English,
  3. A dissertation successfully defended, with official graduation date between July 1st 2017 and June 30th 2018,
  4. A dissertation on a single or multiple general regional science topics. The Selection Committee reserves the right to determine whether a dissertation is relevant to the field of regional science. 

 

Application (in either PDF or MS Word format):

  1. A two-page curriculum vita;
  2. A letter of support and nomination from the major professor (also known as dissertation committee chairperson or supervisor) on stationary paper and with signature. The letter should clearly explain the dissertation’s originality and contributions to the field of regional science;
  3. The dissertation.

11th Geoffrey J.D. Hewings Regional Economics Workshop
Winning and Losing Regions in the Age of Digitalisation
Vienna, September 20 - 21, 2018
The Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) is very pleased to announce the 11th international workshop in honor of Geoffrey J.D. Hewings, Professor of Economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and member of WIFO's Scientific Board. Prof. Hewings has published numerous scientific contributions in economics, economic geography, urban and regional planning, input-output analysis and other fields, and is always eager to share his knowledge and give advice to younger scholars.
This year’s workshop will focus on topics around the urban-rural divide as well as winning and losing regions in times of increasingly digitalized economies and societies. Additionally, empirical contributions from a broader range of regional economics are also welcome. The topics of interest include questions related to:
 regional growth and cohesion
 regional specialization, structural change and knowledge diffusion
 regional location analyses, spatial location choice and location concepts
 geographical impact of economic policy measures

We are happy to announce Wolfgang Dauth (University of Würzburg and IAB) as our keynote speaker for the workshop. Wolfgang Dauth is an applied micro-economist and works at the cross section of urban, labor, and international economics. He currently focuses on topics such as the impact of technological change and international trade on the German labor market as well as commuting or search and matching on local labor markets.
The workshop aims at bringing together researchers from various fields of economics working mainly at the regional level to discuss ideas and exchange knowledge. Moreover it should be emphasized that the workshop also intends to attract contributions characterized as "work in progress" and those from young researchers. Submissions should include an extended abstract (minimum of 300 words) or a full paper.
The workshop will be held at WIFO in Vienna. There are no fees for participants of the workshop. All papers presented may be published in the WIFO Working Paper series. We would like to inform you, that the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) organizes on Friday, June 8, 2018 the Workshop DRONES & TECHNOLOGY APPLIED TO THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES. 

The workshop forms part of a H2020 project, led by the UPV, where we present the main results and achievements of the project AiRT. For now almost a year and a half we have been working in close cooperation with the Creative Industries to develop a drone that allows professional indoor filming. This was made possible thanks to the integration of a modern indoor positioning system which allows safe handling and navigation.  

Apart from the consortium which will expose their results, other leading figures from the sector and experts from the European Commission will attend the event to talk about the opportunities for creative industries.

New Economic Geography, International Trade, and Industrial Organization Celebrating years of academic achievements by Prof. Dr. Shin-Kun Peng, a special issue is scheduled for publication in June of 2019. It welcomes submission of papers
focusing on the field of regional economics, new economic geography, international trade, industrial organization, and urban economics, in which he has devoted all his academic life and accomplished a number of good results.

 

Authors are cordially invited to submit their papers no later than 31 October, 2018, to the Editor of Asia-Pacific Journal of Regional Science. XX ANNUAL BIOECON CONFERENCE ON:

“Land-use, Agriculture and Biodiversity:  Spatial and Temporal Issues”

12th -14th September 2018

The Scientific Partners of BIOECON are pleased to announce the Twentieth International BIOECON Conference on the theme of “Land-use, Agriculture and Biodiversity: Spatial and Temporal Issues”. The Conference will be held at Kings College Cambridge, UK between the 12th – 14th September 2018
BIOECON XX will be of interest to both researchers and policy makers working on issues associated with land-use decisions and its impact on biodiversity. In particular, BIOECON XX aims to focus on agriculture, the conservation of biodiversity and crop genetic diversity, and the use of spatial data to study these issues. Submissions are welcome on this theme which highlight experiences in both developed and developing countries, or trade related issues between the two.

Our keynote speakers will be Prof Paul Ferraro (Johns Hopkins University) and Prof Douglas Gollin (University of Oxford). Prof Ferraro will talk on the evaluation of conservation programmes and instruments. Prof Gollin will talk on issues surrounding agriculture and the in-situ conservation of crop genetic diversity.

In addition to the conference theme, BIOECON XX aims to have parallel sessions on a broad range of topics within the umbrella of biodiversity economics including: the role of biodiversity and ecosystem services in economic development, plant genetic resources and food security issues, deforestation and development, fisheries, institutions and instruments (e.g. Payments for Ecosystem Services), development and conservation, wildlife conservation and endangered species, international trade and regulation and climate change. In particular, submissions are invited on the themes of:

-        Instruments for conservation in the context of land-use and biodiversity

-        Evaluation of biodiversity-related policies and programmes (such as PES)

-        The use of spatial data to study impacts on biodiversity and conservation programmes

-        Institutional frameworks for resource conservation (property rights, market instruments etc.)

-        The role of behavioural economics in biodiversity conservation policy design

BIOECON also has the goal of influencing policy-makers and policy. To this end expert policy panels will be organised. The purpose of these panels will be to bring together practitioners (Government, private sector, NGO) and academics from different disciplines to discuss current policy related issues in biodiversity conservation and environment. The panel sessions will be supported by and contribute to the aims and goals of and the funding partners. Two policy panel sessions will take place, one of which will focus on the role of valuation studies in informing the valuation of natural capital and ecosystem services in policy to date.

Further, we will hold a pre-conference Workshop on “The Role of Social Preferences in Promoting Conservation Behaviour”, that will be hosted on the 12th of September 2018 in King’s College. The Workshop is organised by Prof Stefanie Engel (Alexander von Humboldt-Professor of Environmental Economics, Osnabrück University), Prof Andreas Kontoleon (University of Cambridge) and Dr Elisabeth Gsottbauer (University of Innsbruck). It is supported by the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation. The Workshop will focus on the current debate about the role of social preferences in promoting conservation behaviour. This includes the impact of social preferences on conservation behaviour, the role of social preferences in understanding the performance of environmental policies (such as payments for environmental services), and the potential for conservation policy interventions to promote or trigger social preferences. Scholars from several disciplines including behavioural and environmental economics and social psychology will present frontier research on these issues. The Workshop will lay particular emphasis on discussing lessons from experimental studies. The programme will be announced by mid-June 2018. Spaces in the Workshop are limited and participation for BIOECON conference delegates is by invitation only. The Conference will open with a reception at King’s College on early evening of Wednesday 12th of September.  Conference sessions will commence on the morning of the 13th of September and conclude on the afternoon of the 14th of September. The conference banquet will take place at the main Dining Hall of King’s College on the evening of the 13th of September.

 

SUBMISSIONS
Complete papers may be submitted for presentation within the BIOECON Conference and only complete papers will be considered by the Scientific Programme Committee. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. no later than Monday 28th May 2018. Please include Abstract, JEL Codes and Keywords with your submission. Acceptance of papers will be notified by email by Monday 11th June 2018.

It is also possible to submit 3-4 papers together as a suggested “special session” under a theme similar to those indicated above.  The Scientific Partners reserve the right to accept papers on an individual basis, so it is possible that even when a session is not accepted, individual papers within the session might be so.

Once again BIOECON XX welcomes suggestions for a special natural sciences or interdisciplinary parallel session to foster more interdisciplinary collaboration with the BIOECON network. Sessions proposed should focus on any aspect of biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services and need not be exclusively focussed on economic methodologies or approaches.

 

REGISTRATION

Selected presenters will be invited to register for the conference at the “invited presenter” rate.  The invited presenter rate consists of a £150 registration fee that will cover the costs of 2 nights single accommodation, reception, lunches, and conference banquet.  (A limited number of double rooms are available (at a surcharge of £50/night). Additional guests may be registered for lunch (£35/person) or the Conference Banquet at the additional cost of £50 per guest. There is a £270 registration fee for all other participants that will include the banquet, lunches and refreshments, but not accommodation (£100/night). There is a £150 registration fee for day-participants (that includes lunches and refreshments but not lodging and the conference banquet).  All other questions regarding fees, registrations and accommodation should be sent to the conference secretariat at " href="mailto:This email address is being protected from spambots. Registration will open on Tuesday 12th June 2018. Registrations for conference presenters are due by 26th June 2018. Registration for all other participants closes on the 20th August 2018.
