We are pleased to announce that Reaching Regions, the new peer-reviewed, open access, outreach journal of the North American Regional Science Council (NARSC), began accepting submissions on May 15, 2024.

As part of the launch of the journal, we are now accepting submissions for an inaugural collection of papers. The submission deadline is August 15, 2024, and we expect to publish this collection later this year.

Reaching Regions will publish contributions on topics of policy relevance to North American regions including original descriptive analyses, data visualizations, non-technical summaries of published academic research, case studies with broader implications, research syntheses, and other items approved by the Editors. All submissions should be written in non-technical language that is accessible to non-academics.

Dear RSAI members,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am writing you to deliver news about the recent awards of the RSAI.

  1. The Kohno award (for thanking people for their outstanding service to the RSAI) Committe, this year made up of Prof. Hans Westlund, RSAI President, Chair; Prof. Yoshiro Higano and Prof. Jean-Claude Thill, LRPC members; and Prof. Elizabeth Mack, RSAI Council member, received two very good candidatures for this year's prize. The committee recommended to award Prof. André Torre the 2024 edition of the Kohno award. Congratulations to Prof. Torre on this achievement!
  1. This Spring the RSAI also received four candidatures for the appointment of new RSAI Fellows (distinguished scholars with a proven and recognized research record in the field of regional science). The dedicated committee, made of Prof. Alessandra Faggian (GSSI; Chair), Prof. Genevieve Guliano (USC) and Prof. Jouke Van Dijk (Groningen University), recommended all four candidates for being polled among present Fellows. I am pleased to let you know that three of them passed the election threshold: Prof. Yoshiro Higano (University of Tsukuba), Prof. Eduardo Haddad (USP), and Prof. Andrea Caragliu (Politecnico di Milano), who were appointed Fellows of the Association. Congratulations to all of them!

For both awards, the RSAI Council and the whole Association are thankful to the Committees for their professional service that made it possible to screen candidatures.

Many thanks in advance for your attention,

Kind regards,

Elisabete Martins
