We are now planning for the 21st Uddevalla Symposium 2018. It will take place in Luleå Sweden 14-16 June 2018  and be hosted by Luleå University of Technology with Prof. Joakim Wincent as local host. Congratulations Luleå!

The overall theme is: Diversity, Innovation, Entrepreneurship –  Regional, Urban, National and International Perspectives. The following eleven excellent keynote speakers will contribute with different perspectives to the overall theme:

We invite you to suggest a proposal for a special session at this upcoming 21st Uddevalla Symposium. The proposal should include:

  1. Title of the proposed special session
  2. A short description of the special session
  3. Name and affiliation of a suggested chair (or chairs) for the special session.

N.b. that at least four papers have to be presented in each special session.

Assistant Professor – Economic Development/Planning – Job #1701518

The Department of Geography & Planning at the University of Toronto (St. George Campus) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in Economic Development or Economic Planning.  The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor starting July 1, 2018.   Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Planning or a closely related field by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter with expertise in economic development or economic planning. Specific areas of specialization may include (but are not limited to), community or regional economic development, labour, real estate development, innovation in economic development and economic planning, and economic development and economic planning in relation to indigenous peoples or marginalized communities. Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners or eligibility for membership will be considered an asset.    The successful candidate must also have a record of excellence in research and teaching. Excellence in research is evidenced primarily by publications in leading journals in the field or a research pipeline that is at high international levels, presentations at significant conferences, a research statement and strong endorsements by referees of high standing. Candidates must also provide evidence of excellence in teaching as demonstrated by a strong teaching dossier, including teaching evaluations and a teaching statement, and strong endorsements from referees.    Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The St George Campus is located in the heart of Toronto and offers the opportunity to conduct research, teach and live in one of the most diverse cities in the world.       Aalto University invites applications for tenure-track positions at all levels (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) in the field of Urban Economics. 

      Applicants should have completed their PhD in Economics or a related field. Applicants for appointment at the Assistant Professor level should have postdoctoral experience indicating independence and productivity, and the potential to publish in top journals. Applicants at tenured levels should have an excellent academic record commensurate with the position. Duties include the development and teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in urban economics.
