The Ulvön Conference is a forum for dissemination of high quality research in the field of environmental and natural resource economics. The conference provides a great opportunity for PhD students and senior economists to build networks and interact with leading researchers within their field.
In 2018, the Ulvön conference is arranged in collaboration with the “Workshop On Non-Market Valuation” (WONV). The main objectives with WONV are to provide a forum for dissemination of high quality papers, present recent developments in theoretical and empirical analysis in the field of non-market valuation and create a network of researchers.
The conference admits about 40 participants and is held on the island of Ulvön, a small fishing hamlet that is part of UNESCOs world heritage. Although this year’s joint conference focus on non-market valuation research, contributions and presentations within any field of environmental and natural resource economics are very welcome.

For the WONV part of the conference, a best paper award for young researchers will be announced. To be eligible for the award, a full paper needs to be submitted.
The organizing committee will accept papers based on timeliness and quality. Deadline for submission is March 16th 2018. We encourage electronic submission of extended abstracts (1-2 pages).
Decisions of acceptance to the conference will be announced April 3rd. A link for registration will be provided and deadline for registering is April 16th.

CALL FOR PAPERS
The Master and Doctoral Consortium for Research on Public Policy is promoted by UMPP - Public Policy Monitoring Unit of the University of Évora (http://www.umpp.uevora.pt/), its aim being to promote opportunities for reflection and collaboration between master and Ph.D. students at the University of Évora, and other Portuguese and foreign universities, in the field of scientific research on public policies, from a multi-disciplinary perspective.
The 1st Meeting of Master and Ph.D. Students in the scope of the UMPP Master and Doctoral Consortium on Research on Public Policy (http://www.umpp.uevora.pt/Atividades/Master-e-Doctoral-Consortium-sobre-Investigacao-em-Politicas-Publicas/1st-Meeting) was held in collaboration with IIFA – Institute of Research and Advanced Training of the University of Évora, and took place at the University of Évora, on 23 and 24 June 2016.
The 1st Meeting was attended by students and lecturers from ten universities, namely four Portuguese, two Canadian, one Belgian, one Italian, one Spanish and one Turkish.
The 2nd Meeting of the UMPP Master and Doctoral Consortium on Research on Public Policy (http://www.umpp.uevora.pt/Atividades/Master-e-Doctoral-Consortium-sobre-Investigacao-em-Politicas-Publicas/2nd-Meeting) will be held at the University of Évora on 14 and 15 June 2018 and the Meeting will be organized in collaboration with CICS.NOVA.UÉvora – Inter-disciplinary Centre for Social Sciences, in partnership with other entities such as the Portuguese Agency for Development and Cohesion (AD&C) I.P. .
Similarly to the previous Meeting, we invite Master, Ph.D. and Post-Ph.D. students from all scientific areas who are developing research projects or currently carrying out research on public policy or on topics where public policies are relevant, to participate in the 2nd Meeting.
The 2018 event of the UMPP Master and Doctoral Consortium for Research on Public Policy will also include the first UMPP Biennial of Public Policies (http://www.umpp.uevora.pt/Atividades/Bienal-das-Politicas-Publicas) and the first meeting of UMPP Forum of Public Policy Professionals (http://www.umpp.uevora.pt/Atividades/Forum-de-Profissionais-das-Politicas-Publicas) , two new initiatives created and promoted by UMPP.

ROLE of the POSITION |
The School of Public Policy and Leadership seeks applications for a tenured innovative Associate/Full professor to help lead and develop curriculum and programs that raise our national visibility and contribute to the priorities in the College of Urban Affairs. The appointment will begin in the Fall of 2018. The dynamic and cosmopolitan setting of Southern Nevada offers unique scholarly opportunities. We seek a colleague who can take advantage of these opportunities through internal and external research collaborations. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in research and community-engaged scholarship. Experience in government or nonprofit sectors is highly desirable as is experience in community engagement. Our hire will be a person who thrives working across disciplines in a team and other collaborative efforts, and values teamwork, mentorship and management, and a fair degree of flexibility. In addition, we are looking for a candidate who is comfortable working at an extremely fast pace, with the ability to be adaptable and course correct and reprioritize in response to the changing needs of our community, our discipline, and our programs. The new hire will become part of a group of scholars who are developing and implementing innovative programs that seek to apply scholarship and actively engage community stakeholders. QUALIFICATIONS |
We are looking for an innovative Associate/Full professor to help lead and develop curriculum and programs that raise our national visibility and contribute to the priorities in the College of Urban Affairs. The School is open to applicants from a range of discipline and policy areas that broadly relate to workforce and education. For example, those who work in the area of urban economics, workforce development, labor economics, education policy, political science, policy analysis, program evaluation, demography or other related policy areas relevant to innovative solutions that enhance the pathways to the middle class. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to: 1) the investment in public higher education and the implications for the middle class, 2) identifying innovative actions and policies that help spur job creation 3) improving access and removing barriers within the workforce itself that impede career mobility. About the Role
An opportunity exists for a highly motivated researcher with strong quantitative skills to join the economic modelling team at the Centre of Policy Studies (CoPS) at Victoria University. CoPS specialises in the development and application of large-scale computable general equilibrium (CGE) models. CoPS’ researchers are the creators of a number of high profile CGE models, and the CGE modelling software package, GEMPACK, used at more than 700 sites in over 95 countries. Each year, CoPS undertakes contract research studies for private and public sector agencies around the world. Recent CoPS studies have covered a wide range of policy topics in such diverse areas as: tax, trade, macro policy, climate change, water policy, banking and finance, migration, major projects, microeconomic reform, transport, labour markets, urban policy, terrorism and natural disasters. Working under the broad direction of the Director of CoPS and other senior CoPS staff, the researcher will be required to undertake research in the development, application and/or computation of large-scale economy-wide models.
About the Person
The position will appeal to a researcher who has a strong background in applied economics or a relevant quantitative background in applied mathematics or computer science, and who values the importance of detailed quantitative analysis in informing evidence-based decision making in economics. The position represents an excellent opportunity for a person with the necessary modelling skills to join and play a valued role in this highly regarded research centre. Familiarity with computable general equilibrium modelling is desirable, but we would also welcome inquiries from candidates with skills in either a related area of economy-wide modelling, such as DSGE or macro econometrics, or in areas of applied mathematics or computer science relevant to the solution of large-scale models.
