The Turkish Regional Science Association is happy to announce their annual congress.  The 21st National Regional Science and Regional Planning Congress of the Turkish National Committee for Regional Science (BBTMK) will be held online this year on May 26-28, 2022, hosted by Gazi University Faculty of Architecture, Department of City and Regional Planning.

With the increasing globalization since the 1990s, the change and transformation in the spatial contexts of production and consumption has to re-establish itself in the “new world” that has emerged as a result of the global pandemic that we have been experiencing in different phases since 2020. The question of whether the multi-layered environments of the digital world will create a “social consciousness” that normalizes inequalities in the world of the future, or a “social consciousness” that builds solidarity and productive practices that provide equal opportunities for everyone, awaits an answer. However, in the face of the inevitable coming together of the world in the face of climate change, disaster, pandemic and environmental problems in the physical world, asymmetrical conflicts/wars, ongoing regional migrations, The nation-state is gaining power again and national borders are on the rise again due to reasons such as the uncertainties regarding the future of European integration and multilateralism. In the new world, developments such as stretching or loosening of physical space in some aspects, narrowing in some aspects, changes in mobility with flows and fluidities, changes in location choices, rupture of some supply chains and production relations, and establishment of new ones are also experienced. While all these high-scale developments continue, local and regions need to be reconsidered in terms of the continuation of daily life and economy. There are also developments such as shrinking in some respects, changes in flows and fluidities, changes in mobility, change in location choices, the rupture of some supply chains and production relations, and the establishment of new ones. While all these high-scale developments continue, local and regions need to be reconsidered in terms of the continuation of daily life and economy.

As of 2022, while leaving the pandemic behind, albeit slowly, the 21st National Regional Science and Regional Planning Congress has found itself in the middle of these new developments. Within the framework of the challenging agenda of the world, cities and regions, the main purpose of the Congress is to enable scientists from different fields working in the field of regional science to share their new studies and knowledge that they have developed in order to rethink and discuss the development routes that can balance the economic, social and environmental sustainability of the transforming regions in an environment of uncertainty. to create an enabling environment. Another purpose of the congress is to enable young researchers working in the field of regional science to participate in this sharing environment.

Organizer expects researchers who want to attend the congress to send their abstracts by e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots.
