The last conference was held during January 27-29, 2016 in the University of Calcutta, Kolkata, West Bengal.
The Conference: The 20th Century witnessed the birth of nation states in the world, especially in African and Asian continents from colonial yoke. The approach for upliftment of rural habitat varied in response to selection of time, space, economic ability and socio-cultural stages. Till date, there is absence of universally agreed outlook for rural area development. The term rural development encompasses the development of agriculture and allied activities, village and cottage industries and crafts, socio-economic infrastructure, community services and institutions aimed at improving the social well being of people dwelling in rural areas. The United Nations postulated that the rural development is a process of change, by which the efforts of the people themselves are united and enable them to contribute fully to national programme. The growth and progress of a nation can be evaluated on its achievements of rural development policies and programmes. So, the theme of the International Seminar & 48th Regional Science Conference is “RURAL HABITAT, INSTITUTIONS AND DEVELOPMENT: CHANGING NATURE & CHALLENGES” which would provide a platform to address, share and debate to the issues concerning to the rural world.
