The RSAI is deeply saddened to announce the passing away on 1 March 2017 of the distinguished regional scientist, RSAI fellow, winner of the EIB-ERSA prize and former editor of PiRS, Raymond Florax. Raymond had a long and distinguished career in regional science and his research was of paramount importance to push the boundaries in the fields of spatial data analysis, spatial econometrics, spatial and environmental modelling, and meta-analysis. He was also a hugely respected member of our community. He will be sorely missed.

Our thoughts are with his wife Brigitte Waldorf, who is also an active member of the regional science community, and with the family.
